WHY WE EXIST / THE RIOT REPORT
A point of view.
Not a party line.
We are interested in the things culture makes normal—and what happens when somebody asks why.
01 / Pay attention.
To the music, the machinery, the room, the joke that says more than it meant to. A publication should help you notice something, not just give you another reason to refresh.
02 / Make an argument.
An opinion is a beginning. Show the reasoning. Leave enough room for a reader to disagree without being treated like an idiot. Certainty is cheap; curiosity takes work.
03 / Keep your nerve.
Irreverence is useful when it punctures pretension. It becomes lazy when it replaces thought. We want sentences with teeth and something worth biting into.
04 / Do not counterfeit reality.
This development edition contains original demonstration essays. Imagined venues and scenes are labelled. There are no invented interviews, breaking stories, audience numbers or achievements.
Less noise. More nerve. That is the assignment.
